How I Choose the Winner
This isn't a public vote, I read every single entry myself, and I'm not looking for perfect grammar or a polished paragraph. I'm looking for real stories.
A few things that stand out to me:
Specific over general. "He waits by the door every day at 5pm" beats "he's the best dog ever."
It sounds like you. Not a caption that could describe any dog… I want to feel like I know your dog after reading it.
The feeling it leaves. Did it make me pause, tear up, or smile before I even finished reading?
Honesty over polish. A messy, true sentence will always beat something that sounds made up.
I'll be picking a Grand Prize winner plus two runners-up on National Dog Day. Whatever you write, keep it real, and you're already doing it right.
